“Love the fetus, hate the child.”
America makes it near impossible for a woman to stay autonomous—hard to get family planning resources/make the choice of getting an abortion, and harder to get child care support after the baby is born. Leaving women destitute and dependants everywhere.Look at Canada! Not only do we give almost a full year off, it can be either maternity or paternity. That’s right, daddy can stay home with the baby while the mother goes back to work. And the leave can be also be split between them. For example, the mother could take six months, and then the father could take the other six. Did I also mention that the parent on leave continues to receive pay and is guaranteed their job back?

This is actually the most profound and appropriate literary allusion I’ve encountered so far this week.

Reasons why I don’t want to post this: I’m half nude and don’t want to get rude comments about that (then I remembered how little I care about that). Reasons why I want to post this: I think the picture is beautiful and captured just how I am and feel right now; confused, nervous, sad, vulnerable, scared, sometimes empty and a tiny bit proud of my abs that are slowly coming forward. But despite all the bad things I’m so happy, greatful and I feel like one of the luckiest people alive! I don’t know what I’d do without Roberto right now, I can’t put into words how amazing he is, how much he’s helping me and how great he is at taking care of me. I love you @albertfisk ❤

I have to say that the single most important lesson I learned in 25 years talking every single day to people was that there is a common denominator in our human experience. Most of us, I tell ya, we don’t want to be divided. What we want—the common denominator that I found in every single interview—is that we want to be validated. We want to be understood.
I’ve done over 35,000 interviews in my career, and as soon as that camera shuts off everyone always turns to me and inevitably in their own way ask this question: “was that ok?”
I heard it from President Bush. I heard it from President Obama. I’ve heard it from heroes and from housewives. I’ve heard it from victims and perpetrators of crime. I even heard it from BE-YON-CÉ in all of her Beyoncé-ness. She finishes performing, hands me the microphone, and says “was that ok?” [x]
This actually made me want to cry a little. Thinking that the most powerful people still need that kind of validation.
At the end of the day we’re still just people
